The software tree at Blastwave is modeled after the Debian project in that we have a “stable” and “unstable” branch for all of the software. The recent Quarterly Release of software titles from the “unstable” to the “stable” tree resulted in gigabytes of compressed software titles being released under what was an old and out of date “stable” tree. The Quarterly Release Announcement was made on the 28th of June 2005 after a delay of many many weeks. The actual release did not occur until midway through July and a DVD ISO has not been created until recently.

Many people asked about the status of the Blastwave DVD and most people asked that their money be conserved. It made little sense to create a DVD that would be instantly out of date upon receipt since the Quarterly Release was only weeks away. The problem with slipped dates is that “weeks away” can often stretch into a long tract of time.

Therefore, after a considerable delay, the Blastwave DVD's are now shipping again although with the recent Quarterly Release applied. This of course means that older software titles from the “stable” branch are only available via a old Blastwave DVD ISO. If you have a requirement for a old software title from 2002 or 2003 then you can request a special copy be made. The current release system will result in another shift in the “stable” tree every 90 days.
